The Queen’s 90th Birthday Picnic

25/05/2016 Celebrations,

Everyone knows that this year the Queen is celebrating her 90th birthday and as part of the celebrations on her official birthday weekend there will be the largest ever street party on Sunday June 12th.

The Queen is patron to over 600 charities and organisations and they have all been invited to share in the Patron’s Picnic Lunch. Some lucky members of the public will also have won places in the open ballot and the whole event will be screened live in the Royal Parks.

The weekend will start on Friday 10th June with a Service of thanksgiving at St Paul’s Cathedral and on the Saturday there will be Trooping the Colour on Horse Guards Parade near St James’ Park. The festivities will reach their climax with the picnic laid out all along the Mall. This Patron’s lunch recognises the support and dedication made by our monarch to so many worthy causes during her 63 year reign.

Street parties around the country

You too can join in the fun and hold a picnic of your own in your community. ‘The Big Lunch’ an Eden project is dedicated to helping everyone get involved. You can find out more on their website http://www.thebiglunch.com/ There are ideas for family games, picnic food, and how to decorate your street.

How about combining some paper lanterns with bunting and streamers to add to the festive mood? Match your colours with your table covers and napkins and all your guests can bring a bunch of flowers from their gardens to decorate the tables.

So all that’s left is to send out the invites, decide on the food and drink and find an outfit.

We wish you all a very happy June 12th Picnic Lunch.
